Finder keeps defaulting to Expanded view of folder on external drive

I'm trying to figure out why, when I open a Finder window of my external drive, it always expands to show a specific folder I used months ago and have not touched since. I can't determine how to reset it back to the root view of the drive even with updating the "default view" settings.

Folder browsing window issue Dear all, Good day. Not sure why but when I opened 'Machintosh HD' everytime, the folder window view are small, as attached. (although I'd set the 'view options' and manually dragged it but still the same). May I know how to make it a permanent window view site that I want all the time without manually doing it is needed anymore? Thank you.

Finder "Save As" dialog shows some folders in expanded view every time When saving a file the Finder window shows a list of folders in a particular location. My list of folder (and files) always shows some of the folders expanded (as in showing the contents of that folder). It shows the same folders expanded every time - even if I close them. This happens even after a reboot and CTRL+ALT+ESC. It's not a big problem but the expanded folders have a lot of items in them which makes the list quite long. It would be better if they were not in expanded view. Is there a way to reset this behaviour of the Finder ?

Open Finder. Finder > Preferences > General to change "new finder windows shows"
