checkbox state not saved when editing pdf-form with Preview

When I open a pdf-form (Adobe-pdf) with Preview (version 11.0 on MacOs 12.2.1), checking a checkbox is not remembered : if I save the document (with a freshly checked checkbox), close and reopen it, the checkbox is in its initial state (unchecked).

The same operation with PDF Reader Pro Light seems to work !

In both applications, text modifications survive the saving of the file…

Is this a bug?

Let's see if the steps here help on the article Fill out and sign a PDF form in Preview on Mac

If there are checkbox try placing an X with a text modification to see if that works.
