Cannot open password protected PDF in Preview anymore after adding markup

I received a password protected PDF from a 3rd party. I am able to open it in Preview with the provided password. Once I add a markup (text) to the document, save and close it (no password required for this), I am not able anymore to open it with the original password.

What is going on? Why does it just change the password and what to?

Hello SimonSays12,

This article has some great information about password protected PDFs: Password-protect a PDF in Preview on Mac

Per that article, if you want to keep an unencrypted version of the PDF or change the password, you'll want to export it. It should not be changing the password on its own. If it seems to be, contact the person who provided the PDF to look in to that further.

Cheers!
