iPhone SE (original, first generation) Verizon future?

I have an original gen 1 SE. Verizon says at the end of this year they will be "decommissioning our 3G CDMA Network" and "On January 1, 2023, Verizon 3G CDMA devices or 4G devices that do not

support HD Voice (Non-VoLTE) won't be able to send or receive calls, send or receive text messages, or use data services. " Verizon support and a Verizon store rep have told me that this SE will not work next year because of this. I have a friend who is a phone nut and always owns at least a dozen at a time. He says Verizon is lying to me and that this first generation iPhone will indeed work after the Verizon change. What is the truth?

See the following from Verizon's website https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-218813/

Device models that are 3G (CDMA) and 4G that do not support HD Voice (Non-VoLTE) will be impacted. Some of the popular impacted devices include:

  • 3G basic phones and smartphones
  • 4G LTE smartphones that do not support HD Voice
    • Apple iPhone 5, 5C, 5S or Prior
    • Samsung Galaxy S4 or Prior

Those iPhone models are from 2012 and 2013. The original iPhone SE was released in 2016. So based on Verizon's own support website, it will have no issue.
