Updated iMac to 12.3 and now my iPhone SE (2) will not connect by bluetooth. The message I get is "iMac is not supported". Have reset location & privacy, and network settings on the iPhone. No change. Appreciate help.

Ok, all sorted - I turned off the Personal Hotspot on my phone and everything went back to normal. I had been travelling for the last week and had forgotten to turn off the hotspot.

Yes, this is expected behaviour. While there are many things that can be accomplished with Bluetooth turned on, none of those activities require pairing in the traditional sense. What are you hoping to accomplish?
I use Airdrop several times per week, from iPhone to iPad, iPhone to Mac. While both Bluetooth needs to be turned on, pairing is not required. The other requirement would be for the two devices to be using the same Wifi network.

Further info - it appears that the problems not with 12.3 but with my phone. I have now tried to pair with my wife's iPhone 10 and iPad Air and also my son's iPhone SE (2). All are "not supported".
Strangely the phone connects my AirPods, bluetooth speaker and the car's info system.
Any suggestions?
Airdrop is the main use I have for Bluetooth - without pairing this doesn’t work.
