Ipad Generation 5 Stuck in Restore Mode

I attempted to restore my iPad Gen 5 to the factory default settings because it wasn't allowing me to open applications and was brutally slow. It now seems to be stuck in the restoration process. No matter what actions I have taken it never finishes. Things I have tried:

Hard reboot (Power and home button together). It just restarts the restoration process. It seems to get to about 99% complete and never finishes!

I attempted to connect it to iTunes. iTunes does recognize the iPad and I grant access from my desktop but then iTunes prompts me to allow access on the iPad, which I can't do because it is still stuck in the restore process.

I have no clue what to try next. I've researched and watched numerous videos with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'd like to get this running again or exhaust all possibilities before I purchase a new one.

Hi SCARLOT4444,

As you are unable to grant access from your iPad to allow your computer to recover it, you can put your iPad in recovery mode to bypass this by following these steps If you can't update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch.

  • Restoring the iPad will erase the content from the iPad and during set up, you can restore a backup if you choose to as seen in Step 5.
  • If you had Find My turned on, as a security step, you will need to input your Apple ID user name and password before continuing to set up.

For more information, also check out the "Enter Recovery Mode" section in this YouTube video from Apple Support How to restart your iPhone if it’s frozen on the Apple logo. As it says in the beginning, it is for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Cheers.
