Remove irritating box from search bar

Can anybody tell me if this irritating box on the search bar can be removed in settings? Everytime I want to search for something, it comes up.

That box (actually it’s an oval) is part of the iPad’s multitasking capability. It cannot be permanently removed.

Simply tap outside it to remove it.
