VintageAlex,

Do you recall temporarily muting the notification or changing any settings for these apps? For example, using the notification summary as the current delivery?

If you're unsure, double-check the details for the notifications in the third-party apps with the steps here: Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Additionally, you should check the attention awareness settings on your iPhone to see if the notifications are lower when looking at your device.

"What are Attention Aware features?

Even if you don’t enroll in Face ID, the TrueDepth camera* intelligently activates to support Attention Aware features. With Attention Aware features, iPhone can check whether you’re paying attention to your device and automatically take action.

For example,

  • When you’re looking at your device, your display will not dim until you stop looking at your device.
  • If you're looking at your device, it will lower the volume sound of your alerts.

If you don’t want to use these features, open the Settings app, tap Face ID & Passcode, then turn off Attention Aware Features."

You can also find a these steps and a helpful visual here: Turn Attention Aware features on or off on your iPhone or iPad Pro

Hi VintageAlex,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you're experiencing an issue with some third-party apps not working as expected. We recommending starting with these steps:

1.Close and reopen the app

Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2.Restart your device

Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3.Check for updates

To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4.Delete the app, then redownload it

Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

Thanks

Hi VintageAlex,

I am having the same issue and it is so frustrating! I have done all the fixes I could find. Here's the list:

- my sound notifications are on (flip switch on the side of the phone)

- do not disturb is off

- under settings/notification/Instagram, my Instagram notifications are set to allow, all three alerts are checked, temporary banner style, sounds and badges are on

- under Instagram notifications from within the app itself, all push notifications are on but in particularly, the live videos are on and those are the ones I am most interested in

- I updated my software to the latest iOS15.4

- I deleted the Instagram app and reinstalled it to be the latest 226.0

- under sound and haptics, I have vibrate on ring and vibrate on silent turned on, ringer and alerts turned all the way up, system haptics turned on

- I reset all settings on the phone itself

- I reset the Network Settings

- I confirmed that Low Data Mode and Low Power Mode are both off

- I confirmed that Background Refresh is on for Instagram

I believe this is some type of issue b/w iOS 15 and Instagram and Probably will not be resolved until Instagram updates their software to fix it. I reported the problem to Instagram, but there seems to be no way to get one-on-one help from Meta.

So as far as I can tell, we are left with no option (other than to check our phone every five minutes) until Instagram gets its act together and starts playing nicer with Apple. It's entirely frustrating because every other app I am getting sound notifications for: Facebook messenger, discord, iMessages, Facebook. It's only Instagram that is causing problems, and like you, I initially had sound for them but now no matter what I do I cannot get it back.
