If the iPhone is vibrating, then check the Mute switch on the side of the phone. If it is up towards the front screen, it should be off and you should be able to hear sounds. However, if it is towards the back of the iPhone, then it is on and all sounds will be muted. You will also be able to see orange color in the switch.
