Sim removal and imei number.

I currently have an iphone se and service through ATand T. I ran across an iphone6 plus for free and tried putting my ATandT sim in it and got the error SIM not supported. Ive looked online and found the sim removal sites\companies and was wondering if its safe to give out imei number to these sites.
