Where does that notification sound come from?

Since a few weeks, my iPhone gives the standard tritone notification sound, but I have no idea what generated that sound. There is no visual message. To troubleshoot, I have disabled notification sounds on almost all apps, but I still get the random tritone - several times per day, about 2-3 per hour.

All apps are up to date, running the latest iOS version. My phone is an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

How can I find out what app, or other entity, is generating the sound?

Hey VincentW,

It sounds like you’ve done some excellent troubleshooting so far. You mentioned you disabled the notifications for almost all apps but what about the few you haven’t? If you turn those off, does the issue continue? Also, if you swipe down on the Notification Center, does it show any recent notifications that didn’t appear when the alert occurred? Also, did this issue start after installing a certain app or anything like that? That could help you identify what is causing this as well.

We hope this helps. Take care.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Actually I have disabled all sound notifications for apps where I am unable to configure the sound. So the only apps that can give a sound will do so with something else than the tritone. Still I get the tritone sound at random moments during the day. There is absolutely no other notification - no Notification Center, no app badge, no strokes. Just the sound.
