Apple air tag location won’t update

I have recently got a air tag but it doesn’t seem to be updating its location it just says it’s last location was when I was last with the air tag as I have it on my dog

Why is AirTag location no longer updating? My AirTag fell off my key chain without me noticing. I did not notice until I had already driven away. It must have fallen off near a beach area. I put it in lost mode as soon as I realized. It would update and showed it was in the same location for over 24 hours. Then I checked that afternoon and it’s in another town 30 miles away from the original location. It updated twice at that location and now it shows the last tracking was 5 days ago. Location never updated again. Why is this? Should I keep in lost mood or just remove it? What is causing this? What should I do? I know I am not getting it back

How do I claim an air tag after switching phones? How do I claim an air tag after switching phones? I have an AirTag. Linked to my wallet and keep receiving notifications it’s moving with me. The AirTag was linked to my other phone, got a new phone for Christmas and now it keeps notifying me that it’s moving with me. How do I fix this?

Honestly I would not use an Airtag for your dog, pets or children. Apple actually discourages this because in order for the tracker to be located (in the event the tracker is missing) is to be near a device within the Apple Find My network.

If you want a reliable tracker for your pet, I would get one with GPS/LTE capability
