Automations Homekit not working after update to 15.4

Hello,

after the update and iOS 15.4, location-based automation stopped working. For example, automation "when I leave the house" turns off the lights and sets the thermostat does not work. I tried to set up automation again, restart Apple TV and HomePod, and I still don't know what to do to make everything work the same as before the update. Thank you for the advice.

  • This issue may be resolved by installing ios 15.5 which is now available. According to the release notes from Apple: "Fixes an issue where home automations, triggered by people arriving or leaving, may fail."

Found that on Reddit and it solved my problem!

“I had this since iOS 15 and finally fixed it. Do you have a TV as your connected hub? Try this: assuming you are the home owner and your wife is a resident, go on your wife’s phone > settings > her name > scroll down to look at devices her Apple ID is signed into. Is the connected TV hub listed? If not, go on your TV, sign her out, and sign back in. Do it when she is present and use her phone to authenticate TV login when prompted. Then, check her device list again on her phone. The TV should be listed and this should fix it“

I FIXED IT!!!!!!! If you’re using multiple Apple TV’s as your home hub you have to go into one of them and disable the home hub temporarily so your iOS device has a chance to connect to one of them! Once you look in the HomeKit app and one of the hubs goes from standby to connected you should be set!!!!! You’re welcome let me know if it works!

So my issue was so far fixed when I when to the settings and looked at my home sharing. On one of my apple tvs it was a different user id so I logged out and logged back in to my same apple id as my primary home iphone that has the same icoud email on both iphone & apple tvs and it works! All apple tvs in the house need to be signed in to the same apple id as the main iphone account your using for setup. Hope this helps. (After I signed in had to restart my apple tv & turned wifi on off on my phone and it worked)

iOS 15.5 was just released:

iOS 15.5 includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

- Wallet now enables Apple Cash customers to send and request money from their Apple Cash card

- Apple Podcasts includes a new setting to limit episodes stored on your iPhone and automatically delete older ones

- Fixes an issue where home automations, triggered by people arriving or leaving, may fail

Let's see if it's really fixed... hopefully!

I assume that Homekit detects when you have left Home by the location of your iPhone (similar to the Find My app). So it is possibly a phone-related issue. Have you tried restarting the phone? Sometimes, annoyingly, settings get changed during an iOS update so check that Find My is enabled and that the Home app is enabled for Privacy/Location Services.

I don't currently use the "when I leave the house" trigger but will experiment with it and report back.
