Lines on monitor

Howdy! Gray horizontal lines have started sporadically appearing about 1.5 inches from the bottom of the display of my 13-inch, 2017 MacBook Pro running OS 12.3 There's also a discoloration at the bottom of the display.

It's a hardware issue, I suspect, rather than software as screenshots won't capture the lines. They also appear when I boot into recovery mode.

To troubleshoot, so far I've

  • reset the PRAM
  • reset the SMC
  • rebooted and unplugged all peripherals
  • ran First Aid

Any idea what might be causing the problem—and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.3

good trouble shooting list to rule out software

If you plug into an external monitor to test—this would be insightful by comparison. If no issues externally it points to display/display assembly/projector cable/ or connection

You can try Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac...not as definitive as Apple's own AST2 (Apple Service Toolkit) back bench diagnostic, but may kick out an error code.
