Universal Control: Help with Basic Trackpad Gestures

This will no doubt be one of the most common usage scenarios for Universal Control

On iPad: Working with a PDF

On MacBook: Working with a document

Now, I want to select some text in the PDF (running in iPad OS), copy it, and paste in the document on MacBook. This works great with handoff, but now I can't figure the right gestures using U.C. My trackpad gesture for selecting a line of text in MacOS is three-finger drag. In iPadOS, three-finger drag/swipe is for app switching (switches to previous app). With Universal Control running, I'm drawing a blank on how to select text from iPad, because when I try to do so using trackpad (3-finger drag), it ends up switching apps. I'm sure this is simple: what am I missing?

P.S.: I may be wrong, but I feel like MacOS distinguishes between three-finger drag and three-finger swipe, whereas for iPad OS those are the same gestures?

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Make some changes and come back to your preferred settings

Universal Control: Use a single keyboard and mouse between Mac and iPad

Verify your hardware is compatible —

Verify Mac and iPad both are on the same wi-fi, both have blue tooth on—

and

Each device must be signed in with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication.

System Preferences, click Apple icon in upper left:

>System Preferences>Displays>Universal Control> Check first two boxes

—Allow your cursor and keyboard to move between my nearby Mac or iPad

—Push through the edge of a display to connect to a nearby Mac or iPad

reboot if necessary …

Still no luck—verify you have not blocked Universal Control in the Firewall settings:

>System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options... > Block all incoming connections unchecked
