Crackling & popping sounds on M1 Pro Macbook

Hey everyone,

Got my M1 Pro macbook on November.

Since then the sound is cracking between intervals on both a usb-c speaker and headphones from aux which makes me think its an internal issue. Happens both on browsers, or listening to music on Spotify.

It even cracks when nothing is playing sometimes, or get a Slack message notification.

I'm very unhappy about this as its throwing me off each time and starting to think its a performance issue because it feels like the whole computer is having a split-second performance issue which causes sound stuttering...

If it's an unsolveable problem, I'm thinking of returning it back somehow. Currently I can't even listening to one single song without hearing 5-6 cracks and pops. I thought M1 Pro performances were going to be a smooth sailing one.

I've seen similar complaints online and was wondering if its too common, is it a defect, is it something that needs replacing / repairing?

I'd appreciate it if you could share me your knowledge or what should I do.

Thanks.

Sadly...

  • killing the process CarbonComponentScannerXPC
  • deleting com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist and com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
  • making sure (Activity Monitor) nog Intel-processes are running

..didn't eliminate the problem on my M1-Macbook Pro.

This is a mystery that might be related. Here I have an external headphone, currently the MacBook Pro Speakers selected and 'Woonkamer' is an Apple TV airplay destination. But there's also a device called 'Speaker'. Selecting it results in silence.

I just realized.. The problems started escalating a little while ago. I figured that might be related to application and/or system updates. But, I also switched from a chrome-based browser to Firefox (party because of the Multi-account containers). Maybe I'll switch to Brave or Edge, just to see what happens. Just out of curiosity.. what browser do you use..? 🤔

Also got a MBP 14" with M1 Pro running macOS 12.4

Same issues, also filed a Feedback Form already and I also contacted apple support.

Apple support wanted me to turn the macbook in for a hardware replacement, but I highly doubt it is a hardware issue since different MacOS versions in the past yielded different results. Also I can't wait for approx. 4 weeks to get it back given the current spare parts situations.

Please Apple! Put some effort into this issue.

If there is so many people complaining we need some reassurance from you that you are taking this serious and give us information what the problem is.

Same here in my Macbook M1 Pro 16" 2021..... only when i listen music from Spotify app on macbook speakers it is doing like claps random.... its very strange.. because when i use an external speaker it doesn't happen, and when i listen music in another player like youtube or everything else it doesn't happen to... so i suppose it is a Spotify issue.. any solution?
