MacBook Pro stuck "checking for updates"

My mid 2014 MacBook Pro running 11.6.4 is showing a software update notification. When I click the software update in preferences the "checking for updates" wheel just spins. I have 100GB of 500GB free and am not running any other apps. I have tried restarting, turning auto updates on/off, etc.

Thoughts? Thanks!

No updates available on my MacBook Pro Hello, Here are my MacBook details: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) It currently runs on macOs Sierra 10.12.6, and the problem is that I cannot update it to a later version. When I click software update and try to pull updated, I receive the message "No Updates Available". Please note, I tried to remove app store cache and restart the system, but without much success. Try booting into Safe Mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support and see if the issue persists there.
