My MagSafe 2 cable lights up connected to my mbp but the mbp shows it is connected but not charging (the plug icon). The cable from other identical mbp acts the same way on this machine and both charge the 2nd mbp fine-must be the laptop.

Need a fix. My MagSafe 2 cable lights up green then amber when connected to my mbp 15" (mid-2015) but shows the not charging icon (plug). The cable from an identical mbp acts the same way on this mbp but both cables charge the 2nd identical mbp just fine. two of the pins on the problem mbp are dark brown (burned?). Solution?

I do know the mid 2012 had a replaceable "DC-in board " which seems to be your issue here.

The entire logic board still has to be removed but parts and labor ~$150.00 USD

You will have poke around about the 2015 it may well be soldered to the board.. maybe search i fix it.

Howdy herky67,

Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

Since it seems like you've isolated this to your MacBook Pro, check out the steps below to see if they may clear up what you're experiencing. You can also find this information here: If your Mac battery won’t charge

Reset the SMC: Reset the System Management Controller (SMC), which controls how your Mac manages power. If you have a Mac with Apple silicon, just restart your computer. For other Mac computers, see the Apple Support article How to reset the SMC of your Mac.

Get your Mac serviced: If the battery still won’t charge, your Mac may need to be serviced. Take your Mac to your local Apple Store or contact AppleCare. See Find how to service or repair your Mac.

If you're still needing assistance with this, you can Contact Apple Support for help with setting up service.

Have a great day!

Either those contacts are dirty or perhaps they have become partially scorched. You can try cleaning the contacts on the laptop's port to see if that helps. It may be that those contacts are damaged which would require replacing the DC-In Board. You can have an Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop to provide you with a repair estimate.

Make sure the Magsafe charger connector seats properly. I find a lot of times that I have to wiggle it a bit to get it to light up properly or even reseat it several times. Plus make sure no staples or any small thin metal pieces are stuck to the magnet of the Magsafe connector on the latop (it can be hard to see sometimes). If the edge of the case around the Magsafe port is even slightly deformed, it can prevent the charger from fully seating since even a piece of paper barely fits between the gap between the "L" shaped charger connector and the side of the laptop (even when brand new).

Here is an Apple article for troubleshooting Magsafe charging issues:

I forgot to add that another possibility is the battery has failed (or possibly a Logic Board issue). See if your laptop qualifies for the Battery Recall program here:

15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program - Apple Support

Also try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.

What is the condition of the Battery? You can check the condition by Option-clicking on the Battery icon on the menubar. With macOS 10.14 or older, if the condition is "Service Battery", then the battery has a hardware fault. With macOS 10.15+ you won't see any battery condition listed if the battery is Ok, otherwise you will see "Service Recommended" which may just mean the battery capacity has dropped below 80% of the original Design Capacity, or it may indicate a hardware issue with the battery (no way to easily distinguish them).

I very seldom have had to replace the DC-In Boards on the MacBook Pros unless the contacts have been damaged. It is very easy to test another DC-In Board without tearing it all apart since the connector is accessible once the Bottom Case is removed and the DC-In Board is easily removed with two screws.

My MagSafe 2 cable lights up connected to my mbp but the mbp shows it is connected but not charging (the plug icon). The cable from other identical mbp acts the same way on this machine and both charge the 2nd mbp fine-must be the laptop.
