Same problem. How is this thread marked solved when it seems no one has had the storage cleared after deleting everything?? I’ve even deleted the app. It no longer shows on the home page but shows in the iPhone storage.

Hey everyone! I just got off the phone with Apple Support and they solved it! He had me go to Settings->General->Transfer or Reset iPhone->Reset->Reset all settings. Your phone will restart and once you reopen and go to storage, it should clear the voice memos storage if it’s been deleted. Now, it is frustrating to reset all my location settings and things but not nearly as frustrating as the storage. I hope this helps everyone!

Same for me. After reinstalling Voice Memo app, it simply crashes every time. I guess it has something to do with the ridiculous size of the "Documents & Data" file which, for me is 12.31 TB.

This issue is HUGE. It is preventing us iPhone owners from making backups and as a result, making it impossible to "restore from backup" any newly purchased (and very expensive) iPhone devices.

I've seen a lot of quick-claim fixes like "just re-boot" or "delete the app" or "reset all settings" and even some posts marked as "Fixed!" when the issue was not. I'm glad if those things truly worked for some. But it is not working for me and it is not working for most others.

There is a real issue here, a fix for which Apple is not prioritizing as they should. Time for a Social and Main-Stream Media blitz to get this bug-fix elevated?

Hi rth123t,

"Documents & Data" refers to the memos you had recorded. It seems your deleted recordings may have still been in the recently deleted folder. You'll want to install the app, open the Recently Deleted folder, tap Edit above the Recently Deleted list, then tap Delete All.

As discussed here: Edit or delete a recording in Voice Memos on iPhone

Have a good one!

I’m having the exact same problem. I can’t backup my phone because the phone mistakenly thinks that more storage is being used than the phone even has capacity for: the storage menu claims that I have almost 16TB of voice memos—I repeat, 16TB!!! Now I don’t even want to buy a new device if I can’t actually make a backup to restore all of my data! I tried restarting the phone, resetting all settings, offloading the app—none of that helped. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app and now it just immediately crashes. None of the so-called solutions are actually working. This is a major bug and needs to be fixed immediately. Please assign more engineers to this problem!

Hi rth123t,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We recommend restarting all devices linked to the Apple ID with Voice Memos. If the issue persists after that, go to Settings > Your Name > iCloud and turn off Voice Memos if it's enabled, then turn it back on again and check to see if the storage is the same.

Let us know if this helps.

Take care.
