iphone icloud backup

My iphone wouldn't backup because I didn't have enough storage. I deleted a lot of data to get the storage below the allowed storage. My icloud storage now says 3.8 GB of 5 GB used. I have also looked at the size of the new back up which says it is 1.27 GB. When I try to backup it still says that I don't have enough storage. Do I have to delete the existing backup to get it to backup again?

Hello jchallis,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. There are additional steps available that can help, when a back up to iCloud is not working. Let's go ahead and follow the steps outlined in this helpful article: If you can't back up to iCloud Specifically, you'll want to follow the section that says, "If an alert says that there's not enough iCloud storage."

In addition, it's a good idea to restart your iPhone after freeing up storage space in iCloud: Restart your iPhone

We look forward to hearing back from you with an update.

Kind regards.
