Again, you need a simple passthrough adapter to connect it directly to the Mac. This is not an insurmountable "problem", it just requires a adapter that works. Not all hubs and docks work with Monterey, apparently a good many don't, and it's the responsibility of the device maker to make it work with Monterey, not the other way around.
Likewise, it's the responsibility of the user to use a compatible accessory and/or adapter.
This works beautifully on our Five Mac (2015 -2020) and adds much needed length to the SuperDrive cable: USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple
I have a Satechi USB-C Multiport Pro Adapter but it won't let me connect my USB SuperDrive. Error message keeps saying to connect to a USB port on this Mac. This Mac doesn't have a USB port, that's why I have the adapter. What's wrong?
Same case here. I'm using a NOV8 Tech multiport adapter and my Macbook do not recognize the Superdrive.
I check for superdrive drivers updates and the latest one that I found is version 3 but my computer tells me it's not needed.
You have to use a simple USB-A to USB-C passthrough adapter. Apple sells a good one on their website.

The one we need is only $20. I bought it and it works like a champ. My multi-port adapter didn’t work either. This one is straight USB to USB-C.
