How to tell which photos are on iCloud but not on the device?

I want to delete all photos from iCloud. But when I choose to remove photos from iCloud on the iPad, it says I'll loose any photos that aren't downloaded to the device. How do I tell what photos are on iCloud but not on the device? It looks like all the photos I'm aware of are already on the device when I browse photos in the Photos app.

If you sync with iCloud:

Check the cloud status --

  • open Photos
  • Tap library
  • Scroll to the bottom
  • You'll see your photo/video count and the current iCloud status

If you wish to delete your iCloud photos --

  • Remember, those will delete on any connected device. So, first toggle off iCloud photos (Settings > Photos)
