iCloud icon greyed out in Mac

Icon for iCloud Drive which I used to access from Finder in Mac, has greyed out. Does anyone know the reason or a solution to fix the problem? It works fine from mobile and MacBook.

iMac 27″, macOS 11.0

Hi Miss09,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

Is iCloud Drive switched on in System Preferences? Have a look at this page for steps to turn on everywhere: Set up iCloud Drive on all your devices.

"Set up iCloud Drive on your Mac

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Apple ID, then click iCloud.
  2. Select iCloud Drive.
  3. Click Options, then select any of the following:
    • Desktop & Documents Folders: When you select this option, you can access the files on your desktop and in the Documents folder on any device that has iCloud Drive turned on. See the Apple Support article Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive.
    • An app: When you select an app, it can store data in iCloud.

4.To view your iCloud Drive files and folders, open the Finder, then click iCloud Drive in the sidebar.

For more information on how to use iCloud Drive on your Mac, see Work with files and folders in iCloud Drive in the macOS User Guide."

If that doesn't explain it, try signing out and back into iCloud on your Mac: Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac.

If that still doesn't help, do you use this computer for work? Is there a configuration profile installed? Have a look here: Use configuration profiles to standardize settings on Mac computers.

"View an installed configuration profile

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Profiles .
  2. If you haven’t installed any configuration profiles, Profiles preferences isn’t available.
  3. Select a profile in the Profiles list to view information about it."

Let us know what happens.

Have a fantastic day!
