I have the base model Mac Studio and Siri hands free (trying to activate Siri just by saying "hey Siri" without pressing any keys) is not working. Siri does work when I bring it up using the keyboard's microphone/F5 button.

I do not believe it is supported on this model just like it is not supported on my Mac Mini M1. Some of the Mac Books and 2020 iMac as well as the new Mac studio monitor will work by saying "hey Siri"

You could be right about third party mic not supported..
check the sound input menu to be sure that mic is selected and the input source.
Also be sure you have checked the privacy settings. Lots of camera and mic stuff now has to have permission to talk to anything.
what microphone are you using?
I am using a Logitech Webcam C930e. So it seems third party webcam mics don't work for "hey Siri".
