trying to download software for my V600 Epson scanner and a dropdown message says I need to update, so I downloaded Epson Scan 2 which allows me to scab photos not slides or film. How can I get the software that came with the scanner onto my IMAC Monterey ?

My Epson came with a slide carrier. Just a guess, but if the V600 doesn't come with a carrier, you may not be able to.
As far as the original software is concerned, if it's still available it'll be on the Epson website. Or, if it came on disks you can check eBay.

epson says it works with up to mac os 12.
