Facebook Messenger crashes when opening messages from just 1 person

I know 2 persons with exactly the same problem- everything okay on computer but on phone even clickng (or longclicking) on user crashes the app. Reinstall does not fix it. After clearing the problematic chat, exactly one message can be sent and then it crashes again.

I had this issue, with one of my good friends, We tried to delete all of our chat, unfriend / re-friend, etc..

we rely on messenger on our phones so I had to throw the kitchen sink at troubleshooting until we found a fix.

What finally worked was:

I uninstalled the messenger app, powered the phone off, turned back on, re-installed messenger from the App Store;

and... Whala! It works again.

:sigh: I wish I hadn't deleted our chat history before trying the latter. Cheers!

In your troubleshooting, did you also delete the app and reinstall to see if a fresh install helps? If that doesn't help, another option would be to delete that particular thread and start over fresh. We also recommend reaching out to Facebook Support to look into this: How to contact an app developer

I have the exact same problem. Only crashes when I click on my sister.

Apple support checked everything and couldn’t find a problem with my iPhone.

I also deleted and reloaded Facebook & Messenger but no help.

Strangely the same problem doesn’t happen white my laptop.

Strange though, that even after uninstalling, there's still some info left on device on that apps space until shutdown.
