File Sharing Problems over SMB in Monterey 12.2.1

I recently upgraded from High Sierra to Monterey 12.2.1 and file sharing over SMB is now broken.

I am trying to access my files from an Ubuntu-derivative client.

I can log in to my mac file sharing host and see the files, but I can no longer open any of them off the server; attempting to open text files, PDF files, or video files throws an array of different errors.

I am able to copy files from the mac server to my ubuntu client and view them locally, but this isn't an option when I need to browse large numbers of large files.

Mac file sharing had been working fine for years. Something changed under Monterey.

I have turned off the firewall on my Mac.

I have tried modifying /etc/nsmb.conf to include "protocol_vers_map=2" and "=6"

I have tried modifying /etc/nsmb.conf to disable signing.

When I run "smbutil statshares -a" I get no information about any shares at all.

When I run "sharing -l" it gives me the location of the shared volume, but "smbutil statshares -m /Volume/myvolume" throws an error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent hours on this already and need it to work correctly (as it has in the past) for my job.

Sorry for the late reply.

Here is my config.

SMB server (File sharing switched on), Mac OS Monterey 12.4

Client (Mac OS 10.13.6)

I had the same issue. I found one workaround. On the client, I turned off file size calculations. Maybe your Ubuntu client desktop manager can be setup to not calculate or better yet, not display or calculate file sizes.

I don't use Ubuntu so I am afraid I am disadvantaged in terms of guiding you with steps but the Finder equivalent is to use Command-J. This window appears. So again, if you are displaying windows in a list view in Ubuntu and you see file sizes being calculated or listed do try to turn those file sizes to off. It may help as it has in my case. With this Size values turned off from the pick list on the client side the SMB server connection remains stable. I have called AppleCare and they are aware of my case and issue, if I get a proper fix I will share it here.
