Volume Consistency

Before getting Apple Music, if I had a song playing too loud or too quietly in my car I could easily adjust the sound by changing the slider in iTunes 'Get Info' tab without any problems.

I recently subscribed to Apple Music and have added many new songs resulting in unbalanced audio.

I tried using the sound check feature on my iPhone to aid in the process with some success, however different songs have then become either too loud or too soft.

My issue now is that when I go into iTunes to alter the volume levels nothing changes, I've even tried turning sound check off and doing it manually but it is almost as if the old method doesn't work anymore. When I listen on iTunes or even just through the phone it's mostly fine.

I'm not really sure what I can do at this point.

**** JButters97,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

Are you connect to your car stereo with USB or wireless? Try both connections if possible to see if the results are the same.

Start with this article which has some good troubleshooting basics including checking for updates and firmware: How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support

"Connect using Bluetooth

  1. Restart your device.
  2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn off Bluetooth. Wait for about 5 seconds, then turn Bluetooth back on.
  3. Check the manual that came with your car for more information on how to pair with a Bluetooth device. Most cars require a phone setup on the car display.
  4. If you've connected multiple phones to your car stereo, try renaming your device: Go to Settings > General > About > Name, and type a new name. Then try connecting again.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

If you still can't connect, contact Apple Support.

Connect using USB playback

  1. Restart your device and your car.
  2. Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  3. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  4. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
  7. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support."

Apple Music did release lossless audio. If you use a USB cable to connect to your car, songs might be using lossless audio. See if changing the quality helps: About lossless audio in Apple Music - Apple Support

"How to turn lossless on or off

  1. Go to Settings > Music.
  2. Tap Audio Quality.
  3. Tap Lossless Audio to turn it on or off. From here, you can choose the audio quality for streaming and downloading audio.
    • Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/48 kHz
    • Hi-Res Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/192 kHz"
