DisplayPort is meant, and designed to be a computer interface with a monitor. HDMI is primarily a television connection.

It may make no difference, depending on what you spend on a monitor.

Inexpensive monitors have trouble connection with HDMI. You get a picture, but often can't choose the monitor's native resolution, and/or it connects at a slower sync rate. Expensive monitors have better electronics and are more forgiving. I have an EIZO CG279x and can use DisplayPort, HDMI, and even the now rather ancient DVI. But I will always use DisplayPort first, when given the choice.
