I installed the latest iOS update and a few hours later got a spam message from myself?

I installed the latest iOS update and a few hours later got a text message from myself. I (stupidly) thought that maybe with the new update Verizon was messaging me on my own number and clicked on a link in the text. I immediately realized my mistake and closed out before doing anything else, but I’m wondering 1) how did my own number text me spam 2) should i be worried about data being hacked somehow 3) has this happened to anyone else with the new update?
