If you Share Your Location with another contact then you that contact will also be able to see your location through the Messages app by opening that conversation thread.
Now, to answer your question, the goal is to provide accurate location to those with whom your share your location data. In my experience, location sharing information has been accurate within an acceptable radius every single time.
