Screen coming out of phone?

Hello,

This morning I woke up and found my phone like this. No physical damage, no broken things and everything is working. Any idea what could have causes that?

Thank you!(no idea why the image is upside down in my screen)

Your battery has swollen. Use the Get Support link at the top of this page to arrange for a repair. And don’t use the phone until it is fixed or replaced.

Lithium batteries contain toxic chemicals, as well as the metal Lithium, which can catch fire at room temperature, so they are enclosed in a strong, sealed but flexible wrapper. If the chemical reaction in the battery outgases it inflates the wrapper, causing the battery to expand but still containing the reaction. This is an intention design feature to prevent fires and chemical spills. If it happens to any device with a rechargeable battery you should immediately take it to an Apple store, or click Get Support at the top of this page to discuss repair options. It is safe as long as the wrapper is not punctured, so be careful with it. As to why it happens, it’s just a random failure mode that happens to a small number of batteries. As to how often, well, it’s happened to my 2013 MacBook Pro twice now.

This same thing happened to me!! I had a device for not even four years, and the screen just started to slowly pop off of the rest of the device until the entire screen came off completely. I then decided to purchase a new device since I had had the previous one for several years already, and now I have had my new device for not even two years, and the exact same thing is happening again!! For me, personally, it’s a little difficult to believe that this is happening from a “battery being swollen” (Why is the battery swollen in the first place?!), let alone that this happened Not only once, but now twice to me with two devices right in a row. Now I’m either going to have to pay to get this repaired, or to buy another new device all together. I’m still wondering why or how the battery can “swell up” to begin with.
