Thought this was easy...guess not. Want to copy files from iMac to DVD/CD Disc. Have portable DVD writer that worked fine last year (Tax Season) DVD/Writer brings up disc utility but cant see how to write to it.
iMac 21.5″ 4K, macOS 12.2
Do you have a writable disc in it?
It should appear in the Finder.
Go to Finder->Preferences and check all the relevant boxes to show disks, external disks and cd/dvd drives on the Desktop.
If it appears on the desktop you can drag files like you normally do, then when done control-click and choose Burn.

Here'e what I got. Disc is writable unless its bad. New disc should be OK.

After checking the boxes above, do you now see the drive on the Desktop? Can you drag files to it?
No. No change on Desktop. Preference already set as you explained. Reset again. When I plug in Writer, get Disk Utility.Nothing on desktop
I meant in the General part of preferences, where it says what to show on the Desktop, not the Sidebar.
Tried thumb drive and Finder displays it OK. Writer starts up OK but Mac launches Disc Utility instead.
