Not if you trust them. However, you could change it to a different passcode and then change it back. Or back up then wipe. Apple always recommends backing up.
There are reports of some being wiped to test when the customer didn’t provide a passcode.

Who is them? If it is someone at the Apple genius bar I don't see an issue.
