Cannot close program

I sometimes have the problem of being unable to delete a program because "it is in use". When I click to program in "applications" and move to the bin I get, for example, the message "The item “Evernote Web Clipper” can’t be moved to the Bin because some of its extensions are in use." Re-starting my MacBook Air does not help. What to do?

Not all apps can or should be deleted by dragging them to the bin. To uninstall apps, first determine if that app offers an uninstallation procedure or instructions.

How to uninstall apps on your Mac - Apple Support provides basic instructions.

Install and uninstall apps from the internet or a disc on Mac - Apple Support provides instructions relevant to your concern.

If you don't succeed finding instructions from that app's developer, restart your Mac in "Safe Mode": How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support, and try deleting the program while in that mode.

Back up your Mac as a matter of course. To learn how to use Time Machine please read Back up your files with Time Machine on Mac - Apple Support.
