time machine keeps ejecting my backup disk during backup.

Initially Time Machine was working fine. Now it keeps ejecting itself from my computer USB port. I have tried different ports, rebooting and I still get the message that it has been ejected incorrectly. I have looked at some support pages but do not understand the answers to this problem. Some of the similar questions were 6 years ago. Surely someone has figured this out by now.

I think this may be a question of power. I've been having this problem with Big Sur and Monterey. Today, I plugged my Time Machine drive directly into a wall plug. Before, it was plugged into a power strip that was plugged into a power strip. So far, the problem has not resurfaced in the last seven hours. The TM drive had been ejecting every couple of hours for the last few days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Drives being "ejected" seems to be a common issue with Monterey. It has been suggested to be sure the Mac never sleeps (only use screen saver) and others have tried different drives and cables. I have tried them all. I finally changed my drive to a Thunderbolt drive and I have not had an issue (so far). Should not have to do this but nothing else seems to work. This is only an issue with Monterey (for me).

None of the limited solution suggestions are going to work for me. I'm not buying another external hard drive that "might" work. It amazes me that this problem has been been going on for at least 6 years with no "official" solution. I would like to start over. But I don't even know the steps for a reinstallation of Time Machine. I assume I will have to delete my external drive, but I don't know exactly how.
