Adding battery percentage to lock and home screens?

Is there a way to add the battery percentage to the lock and home screens rather than pulling it down all the time?

I've only just switched to the Iphone 12 after having an 8 so don't know

No, but you can add a Battery widget to the home screen. See: Use widgets on your iPhone and iPod touch - Apple Support
