mask-api.icloud.com

Hi, Today, my firewall started blocking attempts from my iPhone to connect to a mask-api.icloud.com site literally every few seconds. My firewall is a Sonicwall TZ500 and the Content Filter is blocking it as a "Hacking/Proxy Avoidance Systems" site. I have iCloud turned off except for Find My Phone.

My question is less about the blocking and why an iPhone would try to constantly connect every few seconds. Anyone seeing this and have any ideas?

Are you using private relay? It seems related to private relay. https://www.apple.com/privacy/docs/iCloud_Private_Relay_Overview_Dec2021.PDF

Thanks for the quick response. No, it is not on. I upgraded to 15.4.1 just now to see if it helps and the pace of connection requests has greatly decreased but it hasn't dropped to zero.
