Printing issue on network

We have several hardwired networked Mac computers, all using updated Big Sur, Catalina or Monterey. Two Brother MFC printers connected USB to Macs with current drivers.

Until yesterday we all have been able to print to a shared printer; now that function doesn't work.

Message created on printer “Stopped on Server - Sending data to printer”.

Have reinstalled OS, reset printing systems on all computers, removed shared printers and reinstalled.

Tried resetting PRAM and safe mode. Nothing has helped.

Contacted Apple Support but no improvement.

No info on the Brother site.

Just wondering, is Printer Sharing enabled on the ones that can't Print?

If so disable & Reset the Printing system...

Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature ...

Solve printing problems on Mac - Apple Support

In System Preferences>Fax & Print, Right click or Control+click on the Printers list Sidebar, choose Reset Printing System.

if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup).

Any devices that previously appeared in your Printer List and Fax List will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.

Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X

  1. To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X, follow these steps:
  2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  3. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
  4. Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."
  5. As an alternative, if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.

Sharing is not checked off on the remote printer.

Not sure I understand that. Say Computers A & B are Sharing the Printers connected to them with Computers C, D, E, F, & G...

Only A & B should have Ptinter Sharing enabled... & I think they'd need differently named Printers to not get confused,

Another test on one that cannot find the printer,,,

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

Resetting modems didn't help. Strangely, three computers are finding printer sharing is working, others are not able to share. All are on Catalina, up-to-date with OS. No static IP's. No new apps or peripherals. All current printer drivers. This only happened when we updated from Mojave. Mac Support tried to help, created a case #, but remote printing just won't work.

Sharing is not checked off on the remote printer. I have Reset printing System, removed & reinstalled all printers, tried Safe Mode, and went through all these procedures with Apple Support. Nothing has changed. Appreciate you trying to help. The "remote" printer is wifi, USB connected computer is ethernet. I've reset the modem and router. What is so strange is that everything worked fine until the update to Catalina.

I tried everything on the remote computer. Added a new administrative account; have reset the printing more times than I can remember, yet printing will not complete from the remote MacBook. It appears as though the problem may be with server computer which has the Brother laser printer connected by USB and is set to be shared. The latest printer software has been installed, I've reset the system, added the printer which is shared, yet keep getting the message on the remote computer that printing has been stopped on the server. Both have updated Catalina OS.

I really appreciate your efforts.
