Restore in Progress - An estimated 100 MB will be required to finish restoring your apps and data

I have been trying to restore a back up from iCloud to my new iPhone 11 and it repeatedly gets stuck and provides the following message "Restore in Progress - An estimated 100 MB will be required to finish restoring your apps and data. The problem is not a lack of storage space because only 37.7GB of 64GB have been used and all apps and data have been restored. However, the phone will never back up or update as long as it is stuck in restore mode. I have seen this question multiple times from other users and have yet to see a helpful answer from Apple. One could get the impression that they simply don't care. All Apple does is direct people to instructions on how to restore from an iCloud backup. They never seem to address the actual problem. I am posting here with the hope that another user can offer some helpful advice.

I think I found a work around. After three attempts to restore off the iCloud backup. I still received the "An estimated 100 MB will be required to finish restoring your apps and data". I went into the iCloud Settings on my phone and went to "backup" in there it said that it was still restoring and a backup could not be done. It gave you the option there to cancel the restore, I did that and was then able to do a backup and all the info was downloaded to my phone. I don't know what was in the "100 MB's" that were not restored, however everything seems to be there that I needed.

Hello carroll20,

It sounds as if the iPhone is still restoring when that message appears.

Have you had a chance to leave the iPhone plugged into power and connected to Wi-Fi overnight for a couple of consecutive nights?

We would suggest trying that.

If you are still not able to complete the restore, we would reach out to Apple Support.

They will be in the best position to assist further.

Have a good day.

Hi srbwanderer,

You are correct that the phone is still restoring when I get the message. At least it thinks it’s restoring. I have had the chance to leave the phone plugged into power and on wifi for a month and it never finished. That was the second time I tried to restore from iCloud. On the 3rd attempt, I abandoned iCloud and simply used my old iPhone 7 and transferred everything to the new iPhone 11. It was much easier and faster than iCloud.
