How Do I Make Close Game Notifications Stop?

I continue to get notifications, not only on my AppleTV device, but also on my phone, from AppleTV that a sports event has a close score (i.e. an NBA game, college game, etc), even though I have turned off notifications for these on both my appleTV and my phone. And usually it's for some game I would not have ever "favorited" a team or even looked at a game for.

If it's related to another sports app like ESPN, I checked there and don't have any notifications for sports or teams on either.

This used to happen but I turned off the notifications but now they're back as of recently and nothing I do makes them stop.

Where am I possibly missing a notification setting, either in the phone or AppleTV, that could be letting these notifications through still?

Hi Roger Olds,

If you'd like to turn off close game notifications on your Apple TV and iPhone, these steps might help.

If you haven't already, on your Apple TV let's check the following:

1. Open Settings Settings on Apple TV.
2. Go to Apps > TV, then do any of the following:

Get Game Start and Close Game notifications for games you’ve added to Up Next: Turn on Games in Up Next.

In your case, you'll want to disable this setting instead of enabling it.

The information above is from Adjust Apple TV app settings.

On your iPhone, are you getting a repeat of the same close came notification that you see on your Apple TV, or is it a different, but similar sports notification? You mentioned that these aren't your Favorite Teams, have you had the chance to double-check they aren't accidentally selected as part of the Pick Your Favorite Teams feature? Here's where to check:

Add your favorite teams to see their games in Up Next and receive notifications when they’re playing.

1. Tap Watch Now, scroll down to the Sports row, then tap Explore All Sports.
2. Scroll to the bottom, then tap Pick Your Favorite Teams.

Again, you'll want to remove teams you don't want notifications about. This is from Watch sports in the Apple TV app on iPhone. In this link, there's extra information that may help you adjust your Apple TV app on iPhone sports notifications further.

If the issue continues, let us know if those settings were enabled or disabled and if you had any success adjusting them. Also, let us know the exact text of the notification you received after adjusting these settings and on which device. This will help us to pinpoint the precise kind of sports notification you're getting.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!
