Mac OS Monterey discontinues USB 2.0 compatibility?

I have two generic PS3 controllers for light emulating, both of which use USB 2.0 cables. Since the upgrade to Mac OS 12 I have been unable to connect these controllers and have seen others experience similar issues regarding USB connectivity. With the launch of Mac OS 12.3, it has yet to solve the problem. Where do I go from here?
