Using a gift card in family sharing

I am the family organizer and have an iTunes gift card balance. However, when I approve my child’s purchase, it charges my credit card, not the gift card. How do I ensure it uses the balance first? I don’t want to put gift cards in my child’s account.

You can't. The organizer's store credit can't be used for subaccount purchases.
