iPhone 13 Pro Max - Reply to Text message does not work

When I attempt to use the Reply feature to a text message, nothing happens. It does not send. My phone freezes. I need to force it closed (reset) to have the reply go through and unfreeze and open my phone. This phone is fairly new. Anyone else with this problem and a fix? I'd like to use the "reply" feature.
