I have a relatively new iPhone 13pro. When I go into iMessage and then click on the new message icon, the phone appears to hang for about 5-10 seconds. If I type, it remembers and eventually catches up, but sometimes it just fails.
I've reset the keyboard dictionary, but that did nothing to improve the problem. Is anyone else seeing this, or does Apple need to send me the free t-shirt for finding a bug? 8-)

Remove any security or VPN apps including profile in Settings, General, VPN & device mgmt
Ensure you have 10% free space on phone and on iCloud
Restart the phone or

Follow-on - the same 'hang' appears when clicking on the new message button as well, though the delay doesn't seem to be as long.
LD150 - this appears to have worked! Another side-effect of this solution is that the refresh of my inbox is much faster...
