Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have an external HD formatted in APFS. I need it formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) so I can use it to copy the files from a Catalina Time Machine that has gone bad. But Disk Utility doesn't let me choose any format but several APFS formats.
How can I reformat it?

Easing an External Drive is done when the computer is Normally booted .
It does not require booting into Recovery Mode.
It does it get done form System Preferences.
It gets done from Disk Utilities hosted in the Other Folder in Launchpad
I've tried ERASE from Disk Utility both in Preferences and Recovery, Both only give me a choice of 3 or 4 varieties of APFS. I'm trying to copy a Catalina Time Machine to this new HD because the old one is having issues but I need it formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), as I was told when I tried to copy it the first time.

What is presented in above picture is the user erasing a Volume that exists on the drive.
