Is there a sure fire way to delete a sparse bundle from a WD MyCloudHome? What external device does Apple support for TImeMachine Backups?

This is actually 2 questions, but they are related.

Easy one: What external device does Apple support for Time Machine Backups, now that they no longer make Time Capsules?

Harder one: TimeMachine stopped working for many WD MyCloudHome users in January. They seem to be able to fix this, if they can delete the Sparse Bundle (Time machine backup) from the device. I tried the easy way -- Move to trash. It says "Deleting Sparse Bundle", and 1 item deleted, with the bar all the way to the right, but clearly it is still working. I let it go for over 24 hours, but nothing really happened.

I also tried to show package contents, and delete individual files in the Bands directory, but the Bands directory never loaded -- even after sitting for well over an hour.

If I can get this sparse bundle deleted, I believe that Time Machine will work again, as others have found. Western Digital wants me to reset the entire drive, which means that my file system files will all be gone as well. They said to back them up first -- that would require a new device, or cloud storage, so somewhat negates the need for the WD drive at all!!!!!

Help!!

Was that share still connected to Time Machine? Not sure, but it could be trying to hold onto it.

Does it not have some sort of file system manager for the NAS? It should be managing the files and not macOS from a client.

While discontinued, the Time Capsule and their similar routers are still supported.

It doesn’t appear that you actually have a NAS if it doesn’t manage it’s own file system. I’m not sure why it has “cloud” in the name when it isn’t in any way independent of your computer.

If that is just a hard drive, erase it completely and use it as such without all of the WD dreck. Or, get another basic, no frills hard drive and use that directly connected to your Mac.
