Hi mjy5y,
Selecting text using the Magic Trackpad takes some getting used to as the device is gesture-based.
To select a text block, use your index finger to move the mouse pointer to the beginning of the excerpt you'd like to copy. Tap-drag in one fluid motion to begin selecting the text, and move your finger along the trackpad's surface until you've reached the end of your selection.
The text you want to copy should be highlighted at this point (typically in a light blue color). You can use the Command + C and Command + V key combinations to copy and paste, respectively.
If you've never used a trackpad before, it takes some practice to get used to performing routine tasks with the device, so try to be patient.
