connect non apple mouse

cannot add mouse to Mac air. Not showing up as an option to connect

It probably is, since most "wireless" input devices are. Follow those instructions, but if the "device" (mouse in your case) does not magically appear as it describes in Step 3, then you have to review the mouse's instructions. For example, it may have on on/off button or switch, or perhaps it needs to be charged first.
