trying to log into my apple ID but i don't have my old phone where they are sending the log in code.

When you got rid of your old iPhone, did you follow this Apple article: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -> https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351 ?
And do you use a different Apple ID on your old and new iPhone?

I would need my old phone that is logged into my apple ID to first set up two factor ID. I do not have the old phone, any suggestions on how I can get back into my account if I only have one apple device that no longer exists?
My old phone was lost in an accident, I was unable to plan for a move. I'm surprised that no one has run into this issue before. I just moved on and gave up on my old backup. Thanks for your help but I'm moving on now.
I do feel apple should have some option for a customer who has only one device that may lose that device to theft or some other accidental loss so that they can have their old backups.
